I took this in Shanghai in June 2005, from a friend’s apartment balcony (added the tilt shift effect since). Shanghai was busily doing its best to push bikes from the streets altogether to make room for cars, as I understand it.

Thought of this after seeing Weh Yeoh’s comment today on a photo posted by one of the founders of Lane Change, a bike riding community on Facebook.

Ho Chi Minh City traffic. Crazy but it works. A version of this is seen in practically every country where traffic lights and lane markings are viewed as optional. Thing is, I’ve never seen a collision in traffic like this - some close calls, but people time their crossing and keep their eyes open - more possibly than we with the luxury of traffic lights do.

Oxfam reports that locals in Sindh are saying there are far fewer mosquitoes around than might be expected with all of the stagnant water around, and that this might be to do with them getting trapped in these giant webs.
